Sean Payton Considers Play-Calling Changes Ahead of Broncos vs. Chargers
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is contemplating the possibility of removing offensive coordinator Davis Webb from play-calling responsibilities if the team's offensive performance does not improve in their upcoming game against the winless Los Angeles Chargers.
This speculation follows the Broncos' 24-14 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, which left the team with a 2-2 record. NFL insiders Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler discussed the situation, noting that while many believe Payton may act soon, any decision will likely be considered rather than impulsive.
Historically, Payton has not delegated play-calling duties, having promoted Webb from passing game coordinator earlier this year. The Broncos currently rank 27th in the league for both offensive yards and points scored per game. Quarterback Bo Nix's performance has also been under scrutiny, as he ranks 21st in adjusted QBR and 22nd in passer rating. Following the game against the Chargers, the Broncos will face the Seattle Seahawks, providing a potential opportunity for Payton to implement changes.
