Sean Payton Unaware of Drew Brees' Comeback Attempt with Broncos
Sean Payton disclosed on Monday that he was not informed about Drew Brees' potential comeback attempt with the Denver Broncos until after the fact. This revelation came following a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to reports, former Broncos assistants Joe Lombardi and Pete Carmichael reached out to Brees to see if he would consider returning to play quarterback after starter Bo Nix was injured. Despite Brees working out to assess his readiness, he ultimately decided against the comeback due to wrist discomfort.
The Broncos proceeded to start backup Jarrett Stidham in the AFC Championship Game, where they lost to the New England Patriots. Following the season, Lombardi was let go and has since joined the Baltimore Ravens, while Carmichael became the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills.
