Sean Strickland Critiques UFC Fighter Pay Amid Retirement Concerns
Sean Strickland, a two-time UFC middleweight champion, has voiced his opinion that UFC fighters are inadequately compensated, making it difficult for them to retire on their own terms. He shared these views following injuries to his groin and shoulder, indicating a waning passion for mixed martial arts.
Strickland expressed a desire to transition to boxing, describing it as a more lucrative and less demanding sport. He also called for a fight with Jake Paul, highlighting the financial disparities between boxing and MMA. In a recent Instagram post, he criticized the UFC for forcing fighters to continue competing for money, which he believes tarnishes their legacies.
The issue of fighter pay has gained attention, especially after boxer Conor Benn reportedly signed an £11 million deal with Zuffa Boxing, owned by UFC president Dana White. Critics have questioned why UFC fighters do not receive similar financial support. White defended the UFC's pay structure, noting that fighter compensation has been increasing since 2001 and promising that it will continue to improve.
