Seattle Mariners Call Up Top Prospect Kade Anderson Amid Fading Playoff Hopes
The Seattle Mariners are promoting Kade Anderson, a 22-year-old left-handed pitcher and the No. 3 pick from last summer's draft, to start in Saturday's game as their postseason aspirations diminish.
Anderson, who has excelled in the minors with a 1.06 ERA, striking out 135 batters while walking only 13 in 93 ⅓ innings at Double-A, will become the first player from the 2025 draft class to reach the major leagues. The Mariners are bypassing Triple-A for his debut, a common strategy for young pitchers.
Originally scheduled to start was right-hander Bryan Woo, but the Mariners may adjust their rotation to give the entire staff additional rest. Following a recent loss, the Mariners' record stands at 60-68, placing them 4.5 games behind in the AL West and three games out of the wild card race. Anderson's debut will take place at T-Mobile Park against the Chicago Cubs.
