Sebastien Buemi to Depart Formula E After 12 Seasons
Sebastien Buemi has confirmed his departure from Formula E at the end of the current season to concentrate on his role in Toyota's World Endurance Championship (WEC) program. This decision comes as the calendars for both racing series expand, making it unfeasible for him to manage dual commitments in 2027.
Buemi, who has been with Formula E since its inception, will transition to an advisory and development position with Envision. He noted that the introduction of the Gen4 era in Formula E, along with a more condensed schedule, has increased the demands on drivers. The WEC is also set to add an extra race next year, further complicating his ability to compete in both series.
Despite discussions over the past four years regarding his dual commitments, Buemi emphasized that the decision was ultimately influenced by his team's assessment of the time he could dedicate to both categories. He acknowledged the challenges of balancing his racing career with family responsibilities, stating that proper preparation is essential for high-level competition.
