SEC Chaos: Nine Teams Could End Season with 9-3 Records
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) is experiencing unprecedented parity this season, with a possibility that nine teams could conclude the year with matching 9-3 records. This scenario, which has been dubbed an 'Armageddon' situation, remains feasible as the season progresses into Week 9.
Recent victories, including South Carolina's win over Tennessee and Texas' win against Ole Miss, have kept this scenario alive. For it to materialize, 31 specific outcomes must occur over the final five weeks of the season. Notably, South Carolina is not included in the nine-win discussion, as their path would require winning out, which complicates the overall calculations.
In the current bowl projections, four SEC teams—Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, and Texas—are positioned for potential playoff berths. However, only LSU and Texas are anticipated to be part of the nine-win cluster. The College Football Playoff Selection Committee will consider various metrics, including top-25 wins and schedule strength, when determining rankings. As of now, Texas boasts the strongest resume among SEC teams, having defeated three ranked opponents and holding a high strength of schedule.
