Sefton MP Raises Concerns Over Delayed Letter Deliveries
Bill Esterson, the Labour MP for Sefton Central, has expressed concerns regarding delays in letter deliveries, attributing the issue to Royal Mail's focus on parcel deliveries. Constituents have reported not receiving critical correspondence, including hospital appointment notices.
Esterson mentioned that some residents have had to visit sorting offices to collect backlogged mail. He has reached out to Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, urging the government to ensure that Royal Mail's delivery standards are improved.
According to Esterson, postal workers have indicated that Royal Mail receives higher payments for parcel deliveries, which may contribute to the prioritization of parcels over letters. Royal Mail acknowledged that local delivery routes can occasionally face short-term issues but stated that over 93% of letters are delivered on time.
