Sefton Police Advise Parents to Inspect Children's Bags for Fireworks
Sefton Police have issued a warning to parents to inspect their children's bags for fireworks following an incident where a teenager was apprehended with a rucksack filled with them.
The police reported that the individual had been seen discharging fireworks at vehicles before being detained. Authorities emphasized the importance of parents discussing the dangers of fireworks with their children as Halloween and bonfire night approach.
Marion Atkinson, the leader of Sefton Council, has advocated for stricter regulations to prevent children from accessing fireworks, describing some as resembling bombs. While she did not support a complete ban on sales in supermarkets, she encouraged attendance at professional firework displays. Current laws prohibit the sale of most fireworks to individuals under 18 and make it illegal for them to possess fireworks in public spaces.
