Sen. Ed Markey Wins Democratic Primary Against Seth Moulton

Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts emerged victorious in the Democratic primary held on Tuesday, defeating Representative Seth Moulton. The Associated Press announced the results around 8:31 p.m. ET, showing Markey with 64.9% of the votes compared to Moulton's 35.1% as of early Wednesday morning with 96% of ballots counted.

This primary was viewed as a generational contest between the 80-year-old Markey and the 47-year-old Moulton. Moulton had previously argued for a change in the state's political landscape, but Markey's campaign emphasized his long-standing progressive record and experience in Congress.

Markey, who has served in Congress for nearly four decades, previously defeated younger challengers and has focused on progressive issues, including co-sponsoring the Green New Deal. He will now face Republican nominee John Deaton in the upcoming election, with analysts predicting a strong likelihood of a Democratic hold on the Senate seat.
