Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester Questions NFL on Jalen Hurts Health Protocols
Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester from Delaware has contacted NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to inquire about the league's handling of Jalen Hurts' health issues, specifically concerning blood clots.
In her letter, she posed several questions regarding the NFL's protocols for detecting and treating conditions like deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. She asked about the standards for player clearance when such conditions are suspected, the education provided to players and staff on recognizing symptoms, and the measures in place to mitigate blood clot risks during travel.
The NFL Players Association has also called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter, which falls under their rights as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Congress has the authority to investigate the league's practices, especially given its federal broadcast antitrust exemption.
