Sergio Perez Celebrates 300 F1 Races: Key Moments in His Career
Sergio Perez is set to join the ranks of drivers with 300 Formula 1 race starts, a milestone previously achieved by legends like Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button. His journey in F1 has been marked by several significant moments that have shaped his career.
His debut at the 2011 Australian Grand Prix with Sauber was notable for his impressive tyre management, although he was later disqualified due to a technical infringement. A year later, he earned his first podium at the Malaysian Grand Prix, finishing second after a fierce battle with Fernando Alonso, marking Mexico's first F1 podium in 41 years. Perez continued to impress with a second podium at Monza in 2012, where he showcased his skills by moving from 12th to 2nd place.
After a challenging season with McLaren in 2013, Perez found success at Force India, achieving five podiums and helping the team secure fourth place in the constructors' championship in consecutive years. He played a crucial role in saving the team from financial troubles in 2018, which led to its rebranding as Racing Point. Perez's career took a significant turn when he won the Sakhir Grand Prix in 2020, marking his first victory and leading to his signing with Red Bull.
At Red Bull, he became known for his defensive driving skills, particularly during the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. However, the 2024 season saw a decline in performance, leading to his departure from the team. Recently, Perez has joined Cadillac F1, where he aims to lead the team through its inaugural season while celebrating his 300th race milestone.
