Shane McClanahan Placed on Injured List by Rays Due to Back Tightness
The Tampa Bay Rays have announced that ace left-hander Shane McClanahan has been placed on the 15-day injured list following lower back pain experienced during his outing against the Texas Rangers.
Rays president Erik Neander indicated that the injury is considered minor, and McClanahan is expected to miss only two starts. To fill his roster spot, right-hander Alex Cook has been called up from the Triple-A Durham Bulls, where he has a 3.78 ERA this season.
This injury follows a challenging period for McClanahan, who had not pitched for the Rays since 2023 due to previous surgeries. He has a 3.09 ERA and a 9-6 record in 20 starts this season. The Rays may consider trading for another pitcher as the trade deadline approaches on August 3.
