Shane McClanahan Placed on Injured List Due to Back Tightness

Shane McClanahan of the Tampa Bay Rays has been placed on the injured list due to back tightness, as confirmed by the team's president of baseball operations, Erik Neander.

The 29-year-old pitcher left his start against the Texas Rangers and was subsequently sidelined. In response, the Rays recalled right-hander Alex Cook from the triple-A Durham Bulls to bolster their bullpen. Cook has a 1-2 record and a 3.78 ERA in 29 games this season.

This season, McClanahan has achieved a 9-6 record with a 3.09 ERA over 20 games, marking a strong comeback after missing the 2024 and 2025 seasons due to injuries. Neander indicated that this current injury is not anticipated to be serious, suggesting it will likely keep McClanahan out for only a few starts. The Rays are set to begin a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox.
