Shane Steichen's Future as Colts Head Coach Uncertain After GM Firing
Shane Steichen's role as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts is being questioned after the team dismissed GM Chris Ballard this week. Reports indicate that Steichen was considered a candidate for other coaching positions during last offseason.
An executive from another team mentioned that Steichen was among their top choices had he been let go after the 2025 season. Many in the league regard him as a capable coach facing challenges due to the team's circumstances.
Despite a record of 27-30 in Indianapolis and no playoff appearances, some believe Steichen has managed to achieve more than expected given the difficulties, including starting eight different quarterbacks since his hiring. Steichen began his coaching career in 2010 and has held various roles in the NFL before becoming the Colts' head coach in 2023.
