Shavkat Rakhmonov Eyes Title Shot Against Islam Makhachev

Shavkat Rakhmonov is determined to reclaim his position as a top contender in the welterweight division, feeling sidelined due to injuries while Islam Makhachev ascended to champion status. Rakhmonov, who has not fought since December 2024, believes his seven consecutive UFC victories should have kept him in title contention.

Despite his inactivity, Rakhmonov maintains that he can effectively defend against Makhachev's grappling and believes his striking skills surpass those of the champion. He acknowledges Makhachev's accomplishments but is confident in his ability to compete at a high level.

Rakhmonov's return to the Octagon is anticipated in early 2027, following two knee surgeries. Meanwhile, Makhachev has other challengers, including Carlos Prates and Michael Morales, potentially complicating Rakhmonov's path back to a title shot.
