Sheffield United Faces Potential 12-Point Deduction Following Liquidation
Sheffield United may incur a 12-point deduction after the High Court placed COH Sports Bidco Limited (CSBL), the company that bought the club, into liquidation on Wednesday.
The club was purchased for over £100 million in December 2024, but approximately £35 million remains unpaid. A winding-up petition was filed against CSBL by United World, the club's previous owners. The High Court hearing lasted only about 10 seconds, and CSBL had no representation.
While the EFL stated it would evaluate the implications of CSBL's liquidation, the situation is complicated by a recent transfer of shares to a new company, 1919 Partners LLC. This transfer raises questions about the financial responsibilities of the club's ownership. The EFL's decision on whether to impose a points deduction will consider various factors, including the integrity of the competition.
