Shimano Introduces SPD-SLR Integrated Shoe, Pedal, and Cleat System

Shimano has unveiled its new SPD-SLR system, an integrated platform for shoes, pedals, and cleats designed to improve cycling efficiency. This launch marks a significant update since the introduction of SPD-SL in 2003, aiming to enhance the rider's connection to the bike.

The SPD-SLR system features a reduced stack height of 2.3 millimeters, which Shimano claims will provide a more stable pedaling platform and better power transfer. Additionally, the new pedals have a wider catch zone and a narrower angle of engagement, facilitating easier clipping in and out.

However, the SPD-SLR pedals and cleats are not compatible with previous models, which could lead to confusion among users. Shimano has released two pedal models, the Dura-Ace PD-R9300 and Ultegra PD-R8200, each with distinct features. The new cleats come in four color codes, offering varying degrees of float and adjustment options.
