Shivpal Singh Receives 10-Year Doping Ban, Career at Risk
Shivpal Singh, a former Asian silver medallist and Olympian, has been banned for 10 years by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) following a positive test for the anabolic steroid methandienone, marking his second doping offence.
The 31-year-old athlete's career faces a significant setback due to the length of the suspension, which could effectively end his competitive pursuits. Singh previously achieved a personal-best throw of 86.23m at the 2019 Asian Championships and represented India at the Tokyo Olympics.
This latest sanction comes after Singh had his initial four-year ban reduced to one year in January 2023, after he argued that his positive test was due to contaminated supplements. He returned to competition in April 2023, winning medals at subsequent events. However, this new ruling is classified as a second violation, resulting in a much harsher penalty.
