Shohei Ohtani Advances Toward Mound Return After Bullpen Session
Shohei Ohtani participated in a bullpen session on Friday, indicating he is nearing a return to pitching for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Manager Dave Roberts noted that Ohtani threw approximately 20 pitches before the Dodgers began a series against the Detroit Tigers. He mentioned the need to consult with Ohtani and the pitching coach, Mark Prior, to determine the next steps for Sunday.
Ohtani has been sidelined from pitching since July 3 due to a left knee injury. This season, he has an impressive record of 8-2 with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts over 85 2/3 innings. Despite his injury, he continues to play as a designated hitter, boasting a batting average of .285 with 30 home runs and 80 RBIs.
