Shohei Ohtani Cleats Fetch Record Price at Auction
A pair of game-used cleats worn by Shohei Ohtani sold for an impressive $440,055 in an auction that concluded on Sunday. This sale established a new record for the highest price ever paid for baseball shoes at a public auction.
The auction, facilitated by The Realest, saw 89 bids placed for the signed New Balance cleats, which Ohtani wore during the 2025 MLB Tokyo Series. The shoes featured designs that honored his dog, Decoy, and included dirt from the Tokyo Dome.
Previously, the record for the most expensive baseball shoes was held by Michael Jordan, whose signed cleats sold for $93,000 in 2020. In total, only two other pairs of athletes' shoes have sold for over $400,000 in public sales, belonging to Jordan and Kobe Bryant. The demand for Ohtani memorabilia continues to rise, with a recent trading card selling for over $10 million.
