Shohei Ohtani May Return to Dodgers Lineup Monday, Pitching Unlikely

Shohei Ohtani might make his return to the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup on Monday, according to manager Dave Roberts. However, the possibility of Ohtani pitching again this season is considered unlikely.

Ohtani has missed four consecutive games while dealing with injuries to his left knee, right biceps, and neck. His absence marks the longest stretch without playing since he joined the Dodgers three seasons ago. After appearing physically compromised in his last game on Wednesday, he was shut down from physical activity. Roberts noted that Ohtani has shown improvement, participating in his usual hitting routine during Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals.

Despite the potential for his return as a hitter, the Dodgers are prioritizing Ohtani's health, which likely means he will not pitch again this season. He has not thrown since being sidelined and is not expected to resume pitching soon. Ohtani's offensive performance has also declined during his recovery, hitting .203 with a .742 OPS since mid-August. The Dodgers have emphasized the importance of Ohtani's batting in their pursuit of a third consecutive World Series title.
