Shohei Ohtani to Miss Sunday Start Against Tigers Due to Knee Discomfort
Shohei Ohtani will not take the mound on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers due to knee discomfort experienced during a bullpen session on Friday.
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated that Ohtani's knee is not yet pain-free and mentioned minor issues with his biceps muscle. Following Saturday's game, which the Dodgers lost 2-1, Roberts confirmed that Ohtani would not pitch and that his next outing is uncertain. Tyler Glasnow is set to start in Ohtani's place.
Ohtani has not pitched since July 3, when he completed six innings in a game against the San Diego Padres. Although he has been able to continue hitting, with a batting average of .274 and 12 home runs in 45 games since his last pitching appearance, the team is evaluating whether it is beneficial for him to pitch while not fully healthy.
