Shohei Ohtani's Return to Dodgers Rotation in Doubt Due to Knee Discomfort
Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way star, may not return to the pitching rotation as scheduled due to persistent discomfort in his left knee after a bullpen session on Friday.
Manager Dave Roberts indicated that Ohtani is not at full fitness, complicating plans for a potential start on Sunday. Although Ohtani had shown progress with a 30-pitch simulated game last weekend, his recent bullpen session was limited to 20 pitches and did not meet expectations regarding his knee's condition.
Ohtani has not pitched since July 3 due to knee inflammation, compounded by a biceps issue. Despite these challenges, he has remained a key player as the Dodgers' designated hitter. The team has bolstered its rotation depth with recent trades, but injuries to other pitchers have led to Eric Lauer stepping in as the likely fifth starter. The Dodgers currently hold a strong position in the NL West but are closely contesting playoff seeding.
