Shopkeeper Opposes New Alcohol License in Liverpool

A shopkeeper in Liverpool has taken action against a proposed late alcohol license for a new Spar store by releasing images of violent incidents involving his staff. The store is set to open in a former Holland & Barrett location in Whitechapel.

Concerns have been raised by nearby businesses that the sale of alcohol at the new location could lead to increased violence and public safety issues. One shop owner noted that they opted not to apply for an alcohol license due to the problems associated with alcohol, highlighting a past incident where a drunk individual assaulted a staff member.

The licensing committee of Liverpool City Council is scheduled to make a decision on the matter later this month, with Merseyside Police recommending that alcohol displays be supervised by staff during late-night hours. The committee's decision is expected on August 24.
