Shreyas Iyer Encourages Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to Stay Patient Amid T20I Absence
Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has expressed support for young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who did not participate in any of the five T20I matches against the West Indies. The series concluded with a 2-2 draw after the final match was abandoned due to rain.
Sooryavanshi's last appearance for India was during the Asian Games final against Pakistan. In his eight T20I matches, he has accumulated 246 runs at a strike rate exceeding 186, including two half-centuries. Throughout the series, India relied on seasoned openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, who scored 168 and 145 runs respectively, making it challenging for Sooryavanshi to secure a spot in the lineup.
Iyer emphasized the importance of patience and preparation for Sooryavanshi, encouraging him to trust his process and remain relaxed despite missing opportunities. He acknowledged that India could have performed better in the series if their bowlers had been more effective in certain matches. West Indies captain Shai Hope was recognized as Player of the Series for his outstanding performance.
