Shubman Gill Defends Follow-On Decision After Draw Against Sri Lanka

Shubman Gill defended his choice to enforce the follow-on during the second Test against Sri Lanka, which ended in a draw at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo. Despite the disappointing outcome, Gill stated that he believed it was the right decision given the match conditions and anticipated wet weather on the final days.

The Sri Lankan team, led by centurion Sonal Dinusha, managed to secure a hard-fought draw. Gill explained that while they aimed to attack early in the match, the pitch conditions changed, making it easier for the batsmen as the game progressed. He acknowledged the strong performance of the Sri Lankan players while expressing disappointment over the result.

Reflecting on the series, Gill highlighted the contributions of players like Devdutt Padikkal and Manav Suthar, and praised Prasidh Krishna for his bowling. Looking ahead, he remains optimistic about India's chances of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship final, contingent on their performance in upcoming series against New Zealand and Australia.
