Sian Massey-Ellis Retires from Officiating to Join FA as Senior Manager
Sian Massey-Ellis, an assistant referee, has retired from officiating and will assume a new position with the Football Association as Senior Manager - Women Referees starting in September.
In her new role, Massey-Ellis will support and develop female officials across the UK, aiming to create pathways into elite football. She made history in 2010 by becoming only the second female assistant referee in the Premier League and has officiated over 150 matches in the top flight.
Her notable career includes officiating at five Women's FA Cup finals and being the first female assistant referee for the Community Shield. She also made history in 2021 as the first woman to participate in a men's FA Cup final as an assistant VAR. Massey-Ellis has officiated at four Women's European Championships and two Women's World Cups, and in 2019, she became the first English woman to officiate a men's European match in the Europa League.
