Siddhesh Lad Appointed Mumbai Captain for 2026-27 Ranji Trophy Season

Siddhesh Lad has been named the new captain of the Mumbai cricket team for the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season, succeeding Shardul Thakur. This marks the second consecutive season that Mumbai will have a different captain.

The decision was confirmed by Rajesh Pawar, chairman of the Mumbai senior selection committee, who noted that the change aims to ensure leadership continuity while managing Thakur's workload. Thakur had captained the team in the previous season and is expected to focus on his performance as an allrounder.

Lad's appointment follows a successful domestic season where he was the leading run-scorer for Mumbai, accumulating 774 runs at an average of 77.40, including five centuries. The team will begin its Ranji Trophy campaign against Chandigarh at Wankhede Stadium from October 11-14.
