India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has confirmed that Kuldeep Yadav missed the Colombo Test due to a legitimate viral fever, countering speculation about his health. Kotak stated that there was no reason to fake an illness, emphasizing that Kuldeep was unfit to play.
In addition to addressing Kuldeep's situation, Kotak provided an update on Rishabh Pant, who had to retire hurt after being struck on the wrist by a bouncer. He indicated that Pant is expected to return to his innings on the following day.
The match saw India finish Day 1 at 300/5, with Dhruv Jurel and Saransh Jain remaining not out. The day also featured a heated exchange between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lankan bowler Asitha Fernando, which Kotak described as a moment of heightened emotions.
