Skier Conquers the World's Steepest Street

Connor Addis, a skier, recently took on Baldwin Street in Dunedin, New Zealand, recognized as the steepest street globally with a gradient of nearly 35 degrees. This street rises from 98 feet to 330 feet over a distance of about 1,000 feet.

Previously, only one individual, Australian Zak Mills-Goodwin, had been documented skiing down Baldwin Street, reaching speeds of approximately 50 kilometers per hour in 2022. Addis was inspired to ski the street after seeing a light dusting of snow and shared a video of his experience on Instagram, which included hitting some rails in the vicinity.

The steepness of Baldwin Street poses significant challenges, comparable to the steepest ski slopes, where avalanches are likely to occur on angles between 30° and 50°, as noted by Avalanche.org.
