Skip Bayless Questions Todd Monken's Support for Deshaun Watson Over Shedeur Sanders
Skip Bayless recently criticized the Cleveland Browns' quarterback situation, specifically targeting coach Todd Monken's favorable comments about Deshaun Watson following a lackluster preseason performance. Bayless implied that Monken has already chosen Watson over second-year quarterback Shedeur Sanders, influenced by the need to justify Watson's substantial contract.
During a preseason game against the Chicago Bears, Watson completed 11 of 15 passes for 126 yards, leading two scoring drives but also losing a fumble. Monken praised Watson's performance, calling it impressive despite the challenges faced. In contrast, Sanders, who played in the third quarter, finished with six completions on 11 attempts for 79 yards and one interception.
Bayless highlighted the disparity in Monken's praise, suggesting it indicated a bias against Sanders. The Browns are currently in a quarterback competition, with Watson set to start the first preseason game and Sanders slated for the second. The outcome of this competition will be further evaluated in the upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills.
