Solo Journey: Completing a 50K Amidst Pandemic Challenges
After completing a training cycle without a scheduled race, a runner decides to undertake a solo 50K run. With the Covid-19 pandemic disrupting normal routines, he reflects on the challenges faced during his training, including managing time as a part-time teacher and navigating crowded trails.
During his training, he experienced a resurgence in speed and confidence, culminating in a memorable speed workout on rugged trails. However, the pandemic shifted the dynamics of running, turning it from a solitary escape into a source of anxiety due to crowded paths and the fear of judgment.
Despite the cancellation of his April race, he plans to run the 50K course alone, utilizing his car as a self-supported aid station. He aims to complete the run on a weekday with favorable weather, while also making a donation to a local food bank in honor of his journey.
