South Carolina Tops AP Preseason Women's Basketball Poll
South Carolina has secured the top position in The Associated Press preseason Top 25 women's basketball poll, as announced by a national media panel. The Gamecocks received 23 first-place votes, marking the fifth time in seven years that they have started the season at No. 1 under coach Dawn Staley.
UConn, which lost to South Carolina in the Final Four last season, is ranked second with six first-place votes. Southern California, Duke, and Michigan complete the top five. The Trojans are ranked third, bolstered by the return of JuJu Watkins, who missed last season due to injury.
The Big Ten has made history with nine teams in the Top 25, while the Southeastern Conference has seven, including four in the top ten. The first regular season poll will be released on November 9.
