Southern Nazarene Football Player Tyler Ulrich Passes Away After Injury

Tyler Ulrich, a 21-year-old safety for Southern Nazarene University, died this week after suffering a traumatic injury during a game on October 10 against Ouachita Baptist University.

Ulrich, a sophomore at the Division II institution in Bethany, Oklahoma, was hospitalized for five days before his passing. The game scheduled for Saturday against Southwestern Oklahoma State University has been canceled. During the match against Ouachita Baptist, play was halted for nearly an hour as Ulrich received medical attention on the field before being taken to the hospital.

Ulrich was recognized as one of the top defensive players on his team, ranking third with 36 tackles. Southern Nazarene University president Keith Newman expressed condolences, noting that Ulrich was surrounded by love and support from family and friends during his hospitalization. The university's athletics department and his former coach also shared tributes, highlighting Ulrich's character and the impact he had on those around him.
