Spain Seeks to Host Rugby World Cup 2035 with Iconic Venues
Spain has officially submitted a bid to host the Rugby World Cup in 2035, with potential venues including Barcelona's Nou Camp, Real Madrid's Bernabeu, and the Mestalla in Valencia. The Spanish Rugby Federation aims to deliver an exceptional tournament, connecting with 700 million Spanish speakers globally.
If successful, the renovated Nou Camp could host the final, marking a historic occasion with over 100,000 fans in attendance. Spain's bid is supported by the government and La Liga, leveraging the momentum from the FIFA World Cup in 2030, which Spain will co-host with Morocco and Portugal.
The Spanish federation has ambitious plans to triple rugby participation by 2035 and establish Spain as a Tier One rugby nation. Site visits and feasibility assessments are scheduled to begin in December, with World Rugby expected to announce its preferred candidate by mid-2027.
