Spanish Grand Prix Organizers Plan Changes to Madring Circuit for 2027

The organizers of the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid are exploring potential modifications to the Madring Formula 1 circuit, aiming to improve overtaking opportunities for the 2027 event. This decision follows the circuit's debut, which was criticized for a lack of action during the race weekend.

The 5.4km circuit, located around Madrid's IFEMA fairgrounds, received positive feedback for its facilities and driving challenge. However, the design limited overtaking, particularly at the Turn 5 chicane, which was intended to be the main overtaking spot. Drivers expressed frustration during a briefing about the circuit's combined corner entries that hindered overtaking and noted that the pitlane was excessively long.

Event managing director Luis Garcia Abad confirmed that they are open to making necessary changes based on recommendations from the FIA. He emphasized the potential for significant alterations, given that the northern half of the circuit was designed from scratch. World champion Lando Norris also suggested specific modifications to enhance racing dynamics.
