Spurs Secure First Win Amid Coach's Concerns
The San Antonio Spurs achieved their first win of the season on Saturday in Dallas, but head coach Mitch Johnson was not pleased with the team's performance. According to guard De’Aaron Fox, the atmosphere in the locker room suggested a loss rather than a victory.
The Spurs faced a Mavericks team missing six players, including key figures like Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving. Despite the win, San Antonio allowed 31 points in the first quarter, marking the third consecutive game in which they have conceded over 30 points in the opening period. Additionally, they set a franchise record by allowing 46 points in the paint during the first half.
The game remained competitive until the final quarter, where the Spurs outscored the Mavericks 30-17. Johnson criticized the team's inconsistency and effort, noting their 1-2 start to the season. Star center Victor Wembanyama acknowledged the team's struggles, stating that while they are not performing at playoff levels, their current performance is below expectations.
