Sri Lanka's Coach Gary Kirsten Calls for Improvement After Test Loss to India
Sri Lanka's head coach Gary Kirsten has called on his team to translate their recent improvements in Test cricket into tangible results after suffering a 165-run defeat to India in Galle. This loss marks a continued struggle for Sri Lanka, who have yet to secure a Test victory since Kirsten took over, having lost two out of three matches under his leadership.
In the match, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 206 while chasing a target of 372 runs, with India's spinner Manav Suthar achieving impressive figures of six wickets for 55 runs. Kirsten noted that the lack of regular Test matches has hindered his players' ability to adapt to the format's demands, stressing the importance of developing a bowling attack capable of consistently taking 20 wickets.
Despite the setback, Kirsten expressed optimism about the team's progress and welcomed the upcoming schedule, which includes six more Tests in the next six months. He highlighted the need for players to learn how to score runs and maintain performance over extended periods in Test matches.
