
St Helena to Host Inaugural Marathon in February 2027
St Helena is set to host its inaugural marathon on February 28, 2027, making it one of the most remote marathons globally. The island is located approximately 1,950 kilometers off the southwestern coast of Africa.
The marathon course spans 42.2 kilometers and offers a challenging route through lush forests and along volcanic ridgelines, showcasing the island's natural beauty and historical landmarks. Runners will start at Plantation House and finish in Jamestown, passing significant sites related to Napoleon's exile and other historical events.
Participants can also choose shorter distances of 21.1 kilometers, 10 kilometers, or 5 kilometers, making the event accessible for families. The marathon coincides with St Helena's Adventure Week, allowing visitors to explore various activities on the island. Entries are currently open, and early booking for flights and accommodations is advised.
