St. Louis Cardinals Release Pitcher Jawilme Ramirez

The St. Louis Cardinals have made a roster change this week, releasing right-handed pitcher Jawilme Ramirez from their Single-A affiliate, the Peoria Chiefs, during a series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Ramirez, 24, struggled in the 2026 season, posting a 5.50 earned run average over 36 innings, which was a decline from his previous season's 3.02 ERA. He joined the Cardinals in March 2025 after time in the New York Mets farm system, where he had a brief stint at the Triple-A level.

With a career 3.54 ERA and 330 strikeouts over six minor-league seasons, Ramirez is now a free agent, looking for new opportunities. The Cardinals continue to evaluate their roster as they progress through the season under president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom and manager Oliver Marmol.
