Steelers Restructure DK Metcalf's Contract, Freeing Up $18 Million in Cap Space

The Pittsburgh Steelers have improved their salary cap situation for the 2026 season by restructuring the contract of wide receiver DK Metcalf. This move has transformed a significant portion of Metcalf's $25 million base salary into a signing bonus, resulting in nearly $18 million in additional cap space.

This restructuring does not alter Metcalf's pay for the current season. Before this adjustment, the Steelers faced a tight salary cap, as only the 51 highest-paid players on their roster counted against the cap during the offseason. However, once the regular season begins, all players under contract will impact the salary cap, necessitating this financial maneuver.

With the newly created cap space, the Steelers now have more flexibility to manage their roster and finances as they prepare for the upcoming season.
