Stefano Domenicali Discusses Future of F1 Regulations and Audience Engagement
Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of Formula 1, recently addressed the future of the sport at Monza, emphasizing the importance of not becoming complacent during a successful period. He highlighted the need for ongoing growth and adaptation in response to changing industrial contexts and audience preferences.
Domenicali noted that F1 and the FIA will soon evaluate the next generation of power units and cars, stressing the importance of balancing the interests of manufacturers with the sport's independence. He suggested that simpler technical solutions could help maintain this independence while focusing on sustainable fuels and lighter cars.
Additionally, he mentioned the potential for reducing race distances slightly to cater to younger audiences, who may prefer shorter events. While sprint races will continue, they will not be held at every event. Domenicali also pointed out the need to convert new fans' interest into lasting engagement and mentioned the geographical expansion of F1 into regions like Africa and South America as a key growth area.
