Stefanos Tsitsipas Discusses Father-Coach Split and Tennis Revival
Stefanos Tsitsipas, competing at the Almaty Open, shared insights on his recent tennis revival and the decision to end his coaching relationship with his father, Apostolos. Once ranked as high as No. 3, Tsitsipas has seen his ranking drop to No. 39, but he believes he is now playing better than in previous years.
Tsitsipas attributed his recent improvements to alleviating pressure and allowing his father to return to a parental role rather than a coaching one. He noted that this change has positively affected their relationship and his performance on the court. After struggling with a back issue and a strained dynamic with his father, he felt a significant shift after their split.
Since the separation, Tsitsipas has reported a notable increase in his performance, achieving a 21-8 record in his last ten tournaments, including a title win in Gstaad. He is now working with Thomas Perrin and receiving guidance from Patrick Mouratoglou. Tsitsipas emphasized the importance of playing freely and without judgment to foster growth in his game.
