Stephen Jones Discusses Challenges of Retaining CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens

Stephen Jones, the executive vice president of the Dallas Cowboys, recently expressed concerns about the team's ability to retain both wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens beyond the 2026 season. While he previously deemed it realistic to keep both players, he now acknowledges the financial challenges involved.

Jones noted that managing to pay two top receivers at market value is a significant hurdle. Lamb, who signed a four-year, $136 million extension before the 2024 season, has an annual average salary of $34 million, ranking sixth among wide receivers. Pickens is currently under a one-year, $27.3 million franchise tag after a standout season with 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns.

Jones highlighted the pressure on the Cowboys to navigate this situation, especially if both players continue to perform well. He compared the Cowboys' situation to that of other teams like the Bengals and Eagles, who have successfully managed to retain multiple star receivers. The Cowboys are hopeful that both Lamb and Pickens will have strong seasons, which would complicate their salary cap decisions in the future.
