Stephen Ross Sells Minority Stake in Dolphins at Record Valuation
Stephen Ross, the principal owner of the Miami Dolphins, has reached an agreement to sell a 2.1% minority stake in the team and its related businesses. This transaction marks a continuation of his recent sales, which began in December 2024.
The deal, first reported by Sports Business Journal, involves the sale of the stake to Chilean billionaire Jean Eric Salata, who has a net worth of $8.4 billion. The valuation for this transaction is slightly above $12.5 billion. Earlier this year, Ross sold a 1% stake to Lin Bin, co-founder of Xiaomi, also at a valuation of $12.5 billion, which set a record for NFL minority stakes.
Salata, who founded Baring Private Equity Asia, has a background in finance and moved to the U.S. from Chile at a young age. The NFL's finance committee approved this latest transaction last month, with formal approval expected from league owners at their upcoming meeting in New York.
