Steve Smith Surpasses Steve Waugh as Australia's Third-Highest Test Run-Scorer
During the first day of the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead in Durban, Steve Smith surpassed Steve Waugh to become Australia's third-highest run-scorer in Test cricket.
Smith, batting at No. 4, scored 25 runs off 53 balls, including two sixes. He needed eight runs to exceed Waugh's total of 10,927 runs and accomplished this with a six off Keshav Maharaj in the 19th over. Smith's current tally stands at 10,945 runs from 224 innings in 126 Tests.
Only Ricky Ponting and Allan Border have more runs than Smith on Australia's all-time list. Ponting finished with 13,378 runs, while Border scored 11,174 runs. Smith is now 55 runs away from reaching 11,000 Test runs and needs to score at least 230 runs in the ongoing series to surpass Border.
