Steven Alker Wins Rogers Charity Classic in Playoff Against Y.E. Yang
Steven Alker triumphed over Y.E. Yang in a sudden-death playoff to win the Rogers Charity Classic on Sunday in Calgary, Alberta. Alker's victory came after he made a 7-foot birdie on the 18th hole, while Yang bogeyed, marking Alker's second win of the season.
Both players finished the third round at 16-under 194, with Alker shooting a 5-under 65 and Yang a 7-under 63. They combined for an impressive 11-under-par on the back nine during regulation play. Yang had birdied the 18th to force the playoff, while Alker had previously tied a tournament record with a 9-under 61.
Alker's earlier win this season was also in a playoff against Padraig Harrington at the Cologuard Classic. With this latest victory, he moved into fourth place in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, trailing the leader by over $2.4 million.
