Study Reveals 75% of Deceased Former NFL Players Had CTE
A recent study published in JAMA Network Open by researchers from Boston University, Mass General Brigham, and the Concussion & CTE Foundation has revealed that approximately 75 percent of former NFL players who passed away between 2008 and 2023 were diagnosed with CTE.
The study noted that many of these cases might have been in early stages at the time of death and potentially asymptomatic. This finding underscores the uncertainty surrounding the prevalence of CTE among former players.
Despite the known risks associated with long-term head trauma, there remains a challenge in addressing the fears of former players regarding the development of symptoms. Ongoing research is essential to better understand CTE, its progression, and the implications for both current and former athletes.
