Sunil Gavaskar Critiques India's Bowling Strategy After Loss to West Indies
Sunil Gavaskar, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, has raised questions regarding the bowling strategies employed during India's six-wicket loss to the West Indies in the second T20I held in Ranchi. He noted that India could have opted for fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh or Mayank Yadav for the crucial 18th over instead of using Axar Patel, as the West Indies successfully chased down a target of 250 runs.
India set a score of 249/5, but the West Indies reached 252/4 in just 19.2 overs, marking the highest successful T20I chase against India. Gavaskar highlighted that Mayank, who had taken three wickets earlier in the match, might have been a more effective choice for that over, despite Arshdeep's previous struggles.
Additionally, Gavaskar criticized the decision to bring Shivam Dube into the attack in the ninth over, suggesting that left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav could have been a better option while the West Indies batters were still adjusting. He emphasized that taking another wicket could have shifted the momentum in India's favor, as a new batter would have had to come to the crease.
