Surf Abu Dhabi Pro Removed from 2026 Championship Tour
The World Surf League has announced the cancellation of the Surf Abu Dhabi Pro from its 2026 Championship Tour calendar. This decision was made public on Friday, citing ongoing constraints on international flights and the current regional situation as key factors.
WSL CEO Ryan Crosby stated that despite exploring various options to retain the event, logistical challenges rendered it unfeasible. The league had previously indicated that the event's status would be evaluated based on developments in regional tensions, particularly between Iran and the U.S.
In light of the cancellation, the WSL has added the Cloud 9 event in the Philippines to its schedule, ensuring a total of 12 stops for the season. The situation in the region has affected several sporting events, including Formula 1 races, which have faced cancellations and ongoing uncertainty.
